Riverland

South Australia's Riverland region is formed by the Murray River meandering through 300kms of the best fruit growing land in South Australia.

The river shapes the culture of the land, with houseboats, paddle steamers from a by-gone era and canoes all popular ways to get close to the towering cliffs, majestic river red gums and mysterious waters of the Murray River, Australia.

Irrigation from the Murray River lead to the development of vineyards and citrus, stone fruit and nut industries in the Riverland which now produces over 90% of South Australia's fruits and nuts.

Renmark is the starting point for many of the Murray River cruises and houseboats. It is also home to a suspension bridge that is raised twice a day to let boats pass through on their way along the Murray River. Renmark weather is generally warm and mild, perfect for lazy days floating along the river.

Berri is a popular holiday destination for Adelaide residents. Just likes its cousin in NSW, Berri SA is known for its fruit and wine. Just outside of Berri are the Berri Estates - the largest winery and distillery in Australia. You can visit this famous winery by yourself of take a Berri Riverland tour.

The Riverland area grows over half of South Australia's wine grapes, much of it being converted into wine and exported overseas. Local boutique vineyards specialise in Chardonnays while Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz are also popular. Pick up a cellar door map of the Riverland region to plan your expedition.
